National Family Literacy Celebration
November 1 marks the start of Family Literacy Month, a nationwide initiative to encourage reading in children, by making it a family affair. By reading to your children regularly, you are giving them a head start on education!
Aiken County Public Schools' Freedman Parenting Center will kick off the month with special appearances by the Cat in the Hat at several locations including Ridge Spring Monetta Elementary School on Monday, November 2 at 9:00am, Freedman Family Literacy Parenting Program on Wednesday November 4 at 9:00am and Oakwood Windsor Elementary on Thursday, November 5 at 9:00am.
Parents/guardians of students at Freedman will have the opportunity to sign their children up for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a FREE program through United Way of Aiken County, Inc.'s Success by 6 initiative that mails a free high-quality age-appropriate book each month to children ages 0-5 to help build home libraries and instill an early love of reading for all children, regardless of their family's income.
